Maintenance and Care
All of Fortec International Inc. stainless steel products are corrosion resistant, however over time they are susceptible to discolouration, stain and/or corrode if higher than recommended concentrations of chemicals are used in the cleaning process.
The following list of chemicals should not be used with any stainless steel products:
Aluminum Chloride – Barium Chloride- Buchloride of Mercury- Calcium Chloride – Carbolic Acid -Chlorinated Lime – Citric Acid – Ferrous Chloride – Mercuric Chloride – Mercury Salts – Phenol – Potassium Permanganate – Potassium Thiocyanate - Stannous Chloride -
Never Use the Following Chemicals on Stainless Steel:
Aqua Regia – Ferric Chloride – Sulfuric Acid – Hydrochloric Acid – Iodine
Sterilization and Disinfection Instructions for Stainless Steel Products:
1. Instruments should be soaked for ten minutes in a surgical presoak to remove blood and debris
Do NOT use any tools to aid in the cleaning and removal of any foreign substance such as; wire brushes, steel wool, etc.
2. Instruments should be washed in an instrument washer at 186 degrees Fahrenheit.
3.Re-rinse instruments in water and dry before sterilization.
4.Sterilize
Instruments should then be bagged or wrapped and sterilized in an autoclave as per the directions of that sterilizer.
- Avoid Auto Clave the use chemical gas and solutions such as alcohol.
- Do not us water with high acidity.
- Use Purified water if possible as tap water may lead to corrosion or marking.
5. Dry & Store
- Ensure instruments are dry before storing.
- ***Lubricate all hinged products with a silicone based lubricant.
- Lubrication should be done after every Sterilization
- Use a Lubricant instrument spray to prevent rust, stiffness and corrosion to ensure ease of operation and prolonged life.
